What Is a Bangle Bracelet?

First, let us take a moment to look at what a bangle bracelet is exactly. This type of bracelet is defined by its rigidity and its ring shape. This is in contrast to, for example, a link bracelet, which is not one large, rigid O, but rather a number of smaller, flexible parts.

Bangles can be made of fine metals like Gold and Sterling Silver, as well as from hard plastic or even glass. They can be adorned with beads, rhinestones or in the case of fine jewelry bangles, Diamonds, gemstones and inlay like Opal or Mother of Pearl. Bangle bracelets are popular because their simple silhouette and versatility allow them to be easily dressed up or down to complement everything from jeans to formal dresses.

What Are Hawaiian Heirloom Bracelets?

At Na Hoku, we have been creating gorgeous Hawaiian jewelry for a century. We offer many beautiful Hawaiian bangles, including Hawaiian Heirloom bracelets.

These bracelets have been beloved throughout Hawai’i since 1887 when Hawaii’s Queen Kapiʻolani and Princess Liliʻuokalani attended Queen Victoria’s Jubilee. There, they were gifted with Gold bracelets bearing their names, painted in black enamel. When they returned, the Hawaiian people were enamored with the style, which became so popular on the Islands that it is now associated with Hawai’i.

Na Hoku is proud to continue the tradition of hand-engraving our Hawaiian Heirloom bracelets. You can choose a traditional 14K Yellow Gold bracelet in this style, but we also offer Hawaiian Heirloom bracelets in 14K White and Rose Gold.

These bracelets come engraved with the word “Kuuipo” (which is Hawaiian for “sweetheart”), or you can contact our Customer Service Team to request a personalized Hawaiian Heirloom bracelet, making it an extra-special gift.

How to Style a Hawaiian Bangle Bracelet

Whether you choose a Hawaiian Heirloom bracelet or one of the other Hawaiian-made bangles at Na Hoku, you will love how many different looks you can achieve with them. Some of our favorite bangle bracelet style ideas include:

  • Layering your bangles. Wear several bangles on one arm for an edgy layered look. You can choose to have all the bangles made of the same material for uniformity (for example, wear all 14K Yellow Gold bracelets), but it can be fun to mix and match your metals too.
  • Combining them with other bracelet types. You do not just have to layer bangles with other bangles; consider combining a bangle or two with everything from a Diamond tennis bracelet to a Pearl charm bracelet for an interesting mix of materials and textures.
  • Choose one statement bangle. If you are more of a minimalist, or you are accessorizing a more formal look, you may want to choose one fine jewelry bangle (such as one of our Hawaiian Heirloom bracelets) and wear it on its own. This will help emphasize its beautiful detailing.
  • However you choose to wear your Hawaiian bangle bracelets, they are a wonderful jewelry gift to give to yourself or someone special.
